PennDOT's Steer Clear Law
In an effort to continue to educate motorists about the Steer Clear law, PennDOT has a tip card and radio Public Service Announcement available on its Web site. There is a printable version of the card that can be printed as needed by law enforcement officials. The PSA can be downloaded and provided to local radio stations.

These items can be accessed here and clicking on the Traffic Safety Brochures and Resources link.

PennDOT Offers Halloween Safety Tips
With Halloween falling on a Friday this year, PennDOT is warning motorists of the increased dangers associated with impaired driving while children may be trick-or-treating.

Please find below Halloween safety tips that can be posted on your department or municipality Web site with trick-or-treating information.

Tips For Motorists:

  • Obey speed limits.
  • Watch for children walking along the road or who may run into the street.
  • If you are going to a party, please remember to designate a sober driver.

Tips For Parents and Guardians:

  • Buy or make brightly colored, highly visible costumes for children that do not interfere with a child’s ability to see, hear or walk.
  • Add strips of reflective tape to darker-colored costumes and trick-or-treat bags.
  • Provide a flashlight or glow stick for children to carry.
  • Always accompany children while they are trick-or-treating.
  • Remind children to pay attention to their surroundings.

Tips For Children:

  • Walk instead of run when crossing streets.
  • Look both ways for approaching cars before stepping off the curb.
  • Walk on sidewalks whenever possible.
